The debate rages on with the Green Bay Packers.
Here’s the question: Who is the leader on the Green Bay Packers defense?
Clay Mathews is to an extent; and so is A.J. Hawk. But what the media wants and the fans as well, is a vocal leader who controls the airwaves, the locker room and the field.
Everyone wants a clear and visible leader — a player who you can put on a poster.
But here’s the thing: The Green Bay Packers don’t have a clear leader on defense right now and that’s okay. Charles Woodson wasn’t always the guy made popular by the “White House on Three!” speech.
Way before that he was a leader by action. He just got it done on the field and left the talking for teammates to handle. Only when it was absolutely necessary did he become a vocal leader.
So calm down Packers fans, the new leader of the defense will emerge.
Just give it time – and a few victories.
As Lombardi once said: “Leaders are not born; they are made.”
