Yes, I am a confirmed draft geek.
I will watch the whole first round and large chunks of the other rounds. Tonight, however I have hit a stumbling block that I am fine with. It’s an event that involves my son so it’s okay that I will miss some picks. We will DVR it of course.
What I can’t figure out is why the NFL draft works so well as a spectator sport. Why?
For the most part it’s a marathon of talking heads. Is it the lesser-seen highlights of players you never really saw play but look amazing? Is that what we like?
Is it the sight of seeing warriors cry on national TV that captivates our eyes? The concept that dreams can come true?
Do we latch on to some kid we’ve never met from Alabama A&M because when we see his tears and feel his dream we place ourselves near him with the idea that he could be our friend, our brother or – our son?
Good luck to all the sons waiting to be drafted tonight.
Many of you will feel like you could be our own.
