Where to find the 5 most Instagramable walls in Austin

P1350536

Austin has a ridiculous amount of cool street art! You’ll undoubtedly pass by dozens of murals while driving around the city, but which ones are worthy of pulling over for and whipping out your camera? If you tried to stop at them all, we doubt you would have much time left for that famous Texas BBQ!

We’ve taken the liberty to share five favorites that we decided were worthy of the ‘gram (lol). Read on to check them out and learn exactly where to find them!

1. “Greetings from Austin” Postcard

P1350544

Postcard perfect

Address: 1720 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704

Photo Tip: To get the best photo, you’ll have to stand a little bit in the street, so wait for a red light and make sure to watch out for your photographer when a car might be approaching to make a turn! Afternoon sunlight hits the wall for great lighting (seen in the first photo in this blog) but if you want to avoid casting a shadow, clouds will be your best friend.

2. “You’re My Butter Half”

Bring your bae or bff

Address: 2000 E Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Austin, TX 78702

Photo Tip: Bring a tripod or friend to capture you and your bae or bff at the “butter half” wall. It is located on a grassy lawn with plenty of room to set up the perfect shot.

3. HOPE Outdoor Grafitti Gallery

Instagramer paradise

Current Address (until June 2018): 1101 Baylor St, Austin, TX 78703

Moving to new location (projected opening end of 2018): 9507 Sherman Rd, Austin, TX 78742

Photo Tip: Explore the whole park to find your favorite walls, as new art is abundant and always changing. Bring your own spray paint or pick up a can to leave your mark! Wear comfortable shoes (my booties were not ideal) to climb the different dusty/slippery hills to different levels of the outdoor gallery. Hurry to explore this location, as it will be closing in June 2018 and moving to a new location that is proposed to open by the end of 2018.

4. Colorful abstract

Colorful stop off South Congress Ave

Address: 136 E 8th Street, Austin, TX , 78701

Photo Tip: While strolling down South Congress Ave towards the capitol building, take a right turn onto 8th street to run into this colorful abstract wall. We were pleasantly surprised to stumble upon this bright wall.

5. Black and white

Black and white wall Austin

Monochrome madness

Address: 612 Brazos St, Austin, TX 78701 (wall outside of The Refinery)

Photo Tip: A solid, bright colored outfit would pop best on this black and white wall – think red or yellow dress (I didn’t plan to find this wall so I, unfortunately, was unprepared). I don’t think the ladder is always there but it added a great element of contrast in the photo.
